Stop Drinking
Please believe me; I tried most treatment programs there are for my alcoholism. Some were very expensive lessons, while others took me on journeys I would never choose for myself otherwise. Just getting sober doesn't help alcoholism. If it did, I wouldn't need A.A. or its 12-Steps. If getting sober was the answer, detoxification and treatment centers would work. Vomiting in porcelain toilet bowls would work. "Blah! That stuff is killing me; I'm not going to drink it ever again." How many times I told myself that lie and got pickled again that very night. After many years of trying to control the spell it had over me in total failure, I gave up trying altogether.
What is so cunning, baffling and powerful about alcoholism? Certainly alcoholism is more than just an outpouring of a sick brain. Is it a physical sickness? Yes. Do alcoholics suffer grave emotional and mental disorders? Yes! Is it a social infirmity that is also spiritually and morally damaging, and can it alter personalities, as well? Yes! Do all alcoholics become delusional, altering their perceptions of realty, too?
Yes!
Alcohol Anonymous
Currently a 3-in-one bio-psycho-social approach to treat alcoholics is in fashion, but this approach neglects the inward emotional/spiritual person, the very core of the problem. Wellness in conjunction with the 12-Steps is highly recommended. Recovery is about taking care of ourselves, physically, mentally, socially, emotionally, and most of all spiritually.
The 12-Steps are a spiritual path, but merely the needed preparation for stepping into that journey. Preparation is all! It is my belief that alcoholism is a complicated recipe; a soup-mixture of combined illnesses triggered by alcohol.
Alcohol Abuse Treatment
I strongly suggest that abstinence and this five-in-one approach of applying Wellness, with the
12-Steps is the only truly successful treatment for alcoholism there is. Fact is, 3 million sober people have used the A.A. 12-Step model for getting themselves fit for the journey into a new and exciting fourth dimension, so my suggestions are not based on theory.
Overcoming child abuse, alcoholism and other addictions by spiritual means, is of big interest to many in the recovery field. Carl Jung felt a vital spiritual experience was needed. Heartwood Creations is always interested in personal stories of those who have gained a measure of success in living sober lives using the 12-Steps.
